Telemoof is a telecommunications program for accessing your favorite BBS', online services and other connections. Unlike other programs, Telemoof is cool because it is free!
You may freely distribute Telemoof wherever you like and as widely as possible. All I ask is that you do not change Telemoof and that you distribute this read me file with it.
HOW DO I USE IT?
First off, Telemoof is a Communications Toolbox program, so it needs to have certain tools in the system folder. You can find these tools on most bulletin boards and on many online services as well as internet ftp sites. The tools you'll need to have are the basic Apple tools: the Apple Modem Tool, the Serial Tool, the XModem Tool and the VT102 Tool. There are many others out there, and Telemoof will work with all of them, simply copy them to your System folder and BANG, you have more communications capabilities than most commercial packages. Some of the ones I recommend, the Hayes Modem tool, the Pacer ZModem Tool, the VT320 Tool and the Kermit Tool. If you have trouble finding these, please write me and I will help you locate them (most are distributed freely so you shouldn't have to pay to get a good communications program)
After you have copied the tools into your system folder, launch Telemoof. You will start with a untitled connection, under the Connection menu you will find the Setup Connection submenu with options for the Connection, File Transfer and Terminal. Choose each of these and select the tool you want and the settings available for it. For example, if you were going to connect to a local BBS you might choose the Connection settings dialog, choose Hayes Modem Tool from the popup menu and then enter the phone number for the BBS, next you choose the File Transfer settings and choose XModem with it's MacBinary setting, and finally you use the VT102 tool in the Terminal settings and change it to your preferences.
Now that you have your connection setup, you might want to save it for later. Then simply click on the palette icon that says 'connect' (or choose connect from the Connection menu). That's it, the computer will connect to whatever you have choosen in your setup. If you decide to download a file, simply click on the 'Recv File' icon (or choose Receive File from the Connection menu) and it will prompt you for a file name and save the incoming file. To send a file choose the 'Send File' icon and choose a file to send. When you are finished, simply click the Disconnect icon. (Note: if the other computer disconnects you, the Disconnect icon will automatically hilite to indicate this.)
The beauty of all of this is the flexibility of the setups. I use Telemoof at work to connect to our Internet machines using a Telenet connection tool. I also can transfer files using 'ftp', all with the same program I call BBS' with. Any connection is possible, somebody just has to create a connection tool, There are ISDN tools, Internet tools and much more, I've even know someone working on an X10 tool for those controllers that Radio Shack sells (plug 'n play home controllers).
